Drugstore Shampoos & Conditioners for Dry Hair | Kristen Evans

I am by no means a “haircare professional” but I have spent hundreds of dollars on my hair throughout my lifetime, so I would say that gives me the experience needed to express my opinions on what has worked for me. I’ve tried probably every brand in the book for my color-treated hair and I’ve narrowed it down to two brands that have really made an impression on my hair. I have found a few higher end luxury brands that do help my hair, however, I know that some people don’t want to go out and spend $40+ on shampoo and conditioner every month, so I’m going to give you guys my favorites from the drugstore.

So, I’ll start off by giving you all a few tips that I’ve found have helped my hair through the years. And when I say my hair is dry, I’m talking at certain points you could’ve mistaken my hair for a bale of hay (lol country joke).

  1. Cut down on the amount of times you wash your hair.

Your hair contains sebaceous glands, which are glands that secrete a lubricating oil to prevent brittle hair. So if you wash your hair, that strips the natural oils away, which in turn actually makes your hair more dry. So, my best tip is to cut down on the amount of washes you do to your hair.

   2. Use a sulfate-free shampoo

I understand that some people have to wash their hair more often than others. However, when you must wash your hair, make sure to use a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. And usually sulfates are what causes the shampoo to lather up and be really soapy. So don’t freak out when your shampoo doesn’t bubble up, it’s supposed to be that way.

3. Leave-in Conditioner

Leave-in Conditioner is my best friend. I use conditioner while in the shower, but sometimes that just isn’t enough for my hair. I’ve noticed a remarkable difference in my hair’s texture because of leave-in conditioner.

Hask Nourishing Coconut Oil Shampoo & Conditioner

My mom is actually the one who showed me this shampoo & conditioner. I’ve used it for a couple weeks now and it has impressed me so much. It was only FIVE dollars at Walmart and I’m telling you, it’s amazing. If you’re like me and love the smell of coconuts , this is the one for you. It’s one of those shampoo scents that last all day, I get compliments on how good my hair smells all of the time.

OGX Nourishing Argan Oil of Morocco Shampoo & Coconut Milk ConditionerIMG_3349.jpg

IMG_3348.jpgThis brand is pretty amazing. I’m sure everyone knows about them and how great the products are by now, HOWEVER, if you haven’t then you definitely should try them out. They’re a little more expensive than the Hask brand, but they’re still budget friendly. I chose the coconut milk conditioner because again I love the smell of coconut and I felt like the Argan oil shampoo was a little too potent, so I wanted to mix it for a more subtle smell.

What are some of your favorite shampoo and conditioner brands? Let me know! I love hearing from you guys! Thanks for stopping by. Xx.
