How to: Clean Your Makeup Brushes

The cleanliness of your makeup brushes is one of the most overlooked things, however, it’s extremely major. For most people with acne, your makeup brushes could be the reason why.

Ask yourself, When was the last time I washed my makeup brushes?

If you can’t remember the answer, IT’S TIME.

Most people don’t even realize how dirty their brushes are. However, if you think about all of the old makeup, bacteria, and dirt that accumulates DAILY on the surface of your brushes, CHANCES ARE, you’d soak them instantly.

So, I’m going to start off by showing you a simple way to keep your makeup brushes clean.

What you’ll need:

  • Hot Water
  • Dawn Dish Soap
  • A Bowl
  • Towel

1st: You’ll need to get a bowl of hot water, it doesn’t necessarily need to be scalding, just hot enough to kill bacteria.

2nd: Mix the dish soap into the water and let your brushes soak for about 5-10minutes.

3rd: You’ll need to rinse each brush out thoroughly with cold water.

4th: Pat each brush with a dry towel and let them air dry.

Personally, I wash my brushes once a week. This is only because I do my makeup everyday. Depending on how much you do your makeup, you should be able to judge how long to wait in-between washes.

*BIG TIP* If you use a beauty blender, you should be cleaning it EVERYDAY before you apply makeup. Trust me. Sponges soak in more bacteria and makeup than any other cosmetics tool. It’ll help keep your pores clean and keeps you from accumulating bacteria on your blender if you wash it out before each use. I know it’s annoying having to clean it so much, but seriously you’re going to see a total difference in your face.

(BTW My pink beauty blender is clean, the foundation I use has just stained it, I PROMISE! LOL)

I hope you enjoyed this post. If you have any tips and tricks for cleaning your makeup brushes, let me know! I always love seeing new ideas!
