Okay guys, so this isn't a normal post for me. Usually, my posts are centered around less personal things. However, I felt since I have had a terrible experience with the birth control "bar"- Nexplanon – I felt that I should share this with others, so that they don't to suffer through the same issues that I did.
First off, I will not discredit the abilities of the Nexplanon bar itself. I know numerous girls who have had a positive experience with this form of contraception. And I, myself, have been on Nexplanon for over a year now; I'm not pregnant, SO, it obviously works.
Now to the hard stuff. This is a bit of TMI, but, I've had a period the ENTIRE time I've had the bar in my arm. I informed the doctor that my cycle had not stopped, about 3 months after the implant was put in. The doctor dismissed it, saying "oh it will go away, give it a couple more months," and so I did. SIX months passed and I STILL BLED EVERYDAY. So, I eventually get to a YEAR OF NEVER ENDING BLEEDING. As you may guess, this constant menstrual bleeding has caused numerous other health issues for me.
- Fatigue
- Dizziness
- Bloating
- Cramps
- Anemia
These are the less painful side-effects of my constant bleeding. The doctor also told me that my uterine lining fell to 3mm and doctors tend to get concerned when a woman's lining is under EIGHT. So you could say I was experiencing lots of issues.
I tell you all this, just to warn you. If you get this implant and experience the same issues that I had, DO NOT DISMISS THEM AND GET THAT THING OUT OF YOUR ARM ASAP. It's not normal. You shouldn't have a period. Most importantly, if you want to have kids one day, you better get it out quick. (Only if you're experiencing complications)
My recommendation to all girls is to stay away from the arm bar altogether. Stick to the pill, I know it's a lot more work, but in the end, your HEALTH is WAY more important.
